During the month of August the monks are resting and no events are scheduled till the Last Sunday.   We will check email and phone daily for emergencies.  Inquiries and registrations will be processed after August 15.  Rev. Seikai will be co-hosting a week long Retreat at Shasta Abbey.

          August 20 – 26,  At Shasta Abbey, “The Teachings of our Tradition”.                                    A week long meditation retreat co-hosted by Rev. Rokuzan ( N. Carolina), Rev.  Seikai (Pine Mountain), Rev. Mugo (England), Rev. Scholastica (Shasta Abbey) and Rev. Leandra (Throssel Hole Abbey).  Daily Dharma Talks, question and answer periods and private spiritual counseling will be offered by all these monks.  For registration or more info contact the Guestmaster at Shasta Abbey, or phone 530 926 4208.

Sunday Ceremonies  start with a meditation period at 10:15 am, ceremony at 11, followed by Dharma Talk and a shared vegetarian lunch.

Meditation Sunday offers 30 minutes Sitting Meditation periods followed by Walking Meditation.   Meditation starts at 10:15 am, 11 am and 11:45 am.  You may join at any time at the beginning of a period.  We will keep Noble Silence for the entire morning, please respect that when you arrive.  A short Dharma Talk may be given during any of the periods.  A shared vegetarian lunch at 1 pm.

 2 Day Retreats start at 10 am on Saturday, 3 Day Retreats start at 10 am on Friday.  A brief meditation instruction is offered for newcomers to our practice.  During the weekend we observe Noble Silence except for during the Dharma Tea’s.  There are periods of sitting and walking meditation, Chanting services, silent meals, Dharma Talks and private spiritual guidance. 

Work days: from 9 – 1pm we work on temple cleaning and ground maintenance, followed by lunch and Dharma Talk.

Group Meetings in Ventura and Morro Bay:

Sept. 7:   Meeting of the Ventura County Meditation Group, with Rev. Seikai and Rev. Phoebe.  At the Ventura Adult Ed Center, 550 N Ventura Ave.  The meeting starts at 5:30pm for newcomers with a brief introduction, and will end at 8pm.

Sept. 27  :  Central Coast Meditation Group at the Coalesce Bookstore in Morro Bay, from 7 – 9pm.  Please call 805 441 5478 or 805 772 1816 for info.  When a monk will be there it will be announced.

 There is no fixed fee for any of these offerings, please make a donation based on what you can afford.
