The Order of Buddhist Contemplatives, founded by Rev. Master Jiyu, is the umbrella organization that connects the temples and meditation groups, and licenses the monks. Its North American office is at Shasta Abbey, Mt Shasta, CA. Head of the Order is Rev. M. Haryo Young.
Two main characteristics of our Order’s practice of Soto Zen are the equality of genders among the monastics, and the use of the English language combined with western music for our ceremonies and almost all Buddhist scriptures.
The OBC does not financially support its temples or monks. Pine Mountain Temple is a CA Non Profit Corporation, 501(c).
